Building wooden sheds is not as difficult as you think it is. You can use it an area where you can relax or simply as a storage area. The DIY shed is easy to construct and you can do this yourself. How will you do it?

Here are few tips on how to do it.

1. See to it that the shed has a firm foundation.

No matter how well built a shed is, it will not last long if the foundation is not firm. On-grade foundation is the foundation that is commonly used to support sheds. It is made up of pressure treated timber wood or solid concrete blocks (not hollow wall blocks as they can easily crack) firmly set on where the shed will be built. The timber or blocks are leveled closely to each other to serve as support for the floor frame.

2. Build the shed in a location with enough air circulation.

Stay away from a watery location. Water is considered the worst enemy of wood, thus of your shed as well. Too much moisture can destroy the frame, doors and floorings. It can also cause the corrosion of hinges.

Around the sides of the shed, a 2ft to 3ft space would do. Do not build it too near trees, fences or other objects as it can block sunlight and air. It can also prevent you from painting the shed or repairing it in case it becomes damaged.

3. Build a tough floor frame.

In building wooden sheds, a floor frame consisting of the mud still, perimeter band joists and floor joists, a 2 x 6 or 2 x 8 pressure treated lumber will do the job.

Untreated lumber can be used but it can get easily damaged especially if the shed is exposed to moisture. Moreover, if you plan to keep the shed indoors, an untreated construction grade lumber can be used for the floor frame.

4. Do the same for the floor deck.

For the DIY deck floor, three-quarter exterior grade plywood can be used. If you're planning to use the shed as storage for heavy materials and equipment, you can opt for ¾ tongue and groove plywood. This may cost a little more but it is easier to handle and will fit into the floor frame.

5. And finally, choose the right sized door

Hinged and sliding doors are the commonly used types of door. A hinged door is a good choice for small spaced sheds while a sliding door requires extra space.

Now you have learned some tips on DIY shed. It's time to take action now.

Wooden garden sheds are very popular especially among homeowners who have a large yard space. It is no longer limited to being a storage place for certain equipment or tools because now, the garden sheds are used for different purposes. Great additions to your existing garden sheds are arbors and pergolas.

Building garden sheds is not as hard as you think. In fact, you can find garden shed plans that you can follow with ease. The plans already come with detailed instructions and the materials needed. This is great for individuals who love DIY projects. You can construct the garden shed over the weekend so that other family members can help you out.

You can also place arbors and pergolas in your garden because these are great structures that will complement the garden shed. Even with limited experience and tools, you can already create arbors and pergolas over the weekend.

If you have climbing vines, a swing, a gate, or a bench, having an arbor is an excellent idea. Arbors are commonly made from red cedar but you can also use PVC vinyl, copper, bent wood, steel, and iron.

For the walkway, you can build pergolas. The pergola is a wooden frame that is supported by several posts with beams at the top. A very good example of pergolas is that of the Renaissance gardens in Italy. If you're growing grape vines, you can use the pergolas as arbors. Today, the pergola comes in many designs. The framework also works as a support for plants and flowers. You can use these things to enhance your patios and the entire garden.

You can also add more value to your property if you have arbors and pergolas as well as wooden garden sheds. Building these things doesn't cost much especially if you carefully plan everything. You can build the pergola over the walkway from your house leading to the garden shed.

Make sure that you also put plants and flowers on the posts and some hanging vines. Walking through the pergola will surely enchant you and your houseguests. If you have a garden bench, you can put an arbor where vines can crawl.

Having a beautifully designed garden will give you and your family a lot of happy memories. You can even hold garden parties during special occasions. Get the plans now and start working on the garden shed, arbor, and pergola.
